Black Letter Day is the debut album from Sean Power & The Main Street Band.
Recorded in Brisbane in 2024, the band decided to make the record outside of the sterile environment of a recording studio, which contributed to the raw and honest sound of the album. Black Letter Day captures the band’s blend of roots rock, blues, alternative-country and Americana. The songs range from the early 70’s Stones groove of ‘Behind Closed Doors’ to heartfelt country of ‘Elijah’.
Recorded and mixed by Sean Power, the minimalist approach is rooted in the classic recordings of the late-’60s and early-’70s, using a blend of old school valve preamps, spring reverbs and tape effects with the occasional modern twist. The album was about capturing a mood and in some cases the guide tracks and demos made the final cut.
Building on the success of the singles ‘Battle Song’ and ‘Black Letter Day’, both being picked up by ABC Grass Roots and numerous community stations the band have also been gaining a reputation as an engaging live act.
