Limited edition marble blue vinyl!
Excellent Brisbane jangle-pop trio People Mover have finally released their debut album Cane Trash on Little Lunch Records!
Drawn from the memories of siblings Lu and Dan, who grew up in the country QLD town of Bundaberg, Cane Trash is an ode to the burn-off of sugarcane and the ashy snow that once filled the town’s air before harvest. It’s a track drenched in nostalgia and longing; the kind of song you’d expect to hear nestled in the corner of a small town pub with a schooner slowly warming in your palms.
“Cane Trash gives into memories of where you came from and how you used to feel,” explain the band. “It analyses where we go when we need to reset. Is it home, or can it be somewhere that reminds you of it? That memory is an analogy for the album – things are fragile, special and fleeting”
While Cane Trash seems nonchalant and happy-go-lucky on the surface, it is the band’s ability to bury more heavier and self-reflective themes beneath lo-fi twang that makes their music so special. Underneath the relaxed smile is the feeling of quiet struggle – a struggle to detach yourself from memories of the past and be fully immersed in the present. Cane Trash captures both that joy and melancholy of that feeling in under three minutes.
Although there’s a desire to be more present in the moment and capture life’s fleeting beauty in People Mover’s message, Cane Trash invites you to stay in that warm, dewy grass just a little bit longer.
